Canon South Africa

Since 2015, Climate Neutral Group has assisted Canon South Africa to become a carbon neutral business by buying carbon offsets. Offsetting one’s carbon footprint is a powerful way of becoming a more sustainable company.

After gaining insights into Canon’s carbon footprint (measure), the company spent time on and resources in improving its resource and energy efficiency. It, for instance, implemented various optimisation reduction programmes dealing with paper usage and energy consumption. Finally, Canon South Africa decided to purchase carbon offsets from a local carbon offset project, The Wonderbag.

The company currently offsets 15% of its annual carbon footprint through one of our offsetting projects, The Wonderbag. This is over and above putting various measures in place to reduce its carbon footprint. The company has also pledged to increase the percentage of its offsetting activities on an annual basis. All in all, as a “carbon offsetting South Africa” frontrunners, Canon SA has inspired many others of looking at their climate impact.

Canon South Africa is offsetting its carbon emissions through The Wonderbag offsetting project. This initiative reduces people’s fuel cost (wood, charcoal,  etc) by some 40% whilst curbing carbon emissions and fighting climate change. The Wonderbag also improves the quality of life of people in vulnerable communities.

Globally, Canon has applied its environmental sustainability policy to save costs by making its printing and transport operations more efficient and reducing its waste output.
